Near-Shoring

Covid woke us up to the fact that very few of the products we rely on are sourced in or near the United States. We had our own personal moment of looking around and wondering, why are we buying so many things from countries oceans away? For the fashion industry, it meant challenging "fast fashion" and asking consumers to consider the environmental impact of buying cheap, low quality products from overseas. We created IdealThread with the idea of connecting to our neighbors. We work with artists located in North and Central America. We refuse to buy cheap goods that are mass produced in an unsustainable fashion and then shipped half-way around the world. We know the origin story of every piece of our puzzle.  

Our Products

Our Artists are chosen because they practice sustainable principles in sourcing their materials and creating their art. When sustainable choices are difficult for our partners due to price or location, we step in to help. We purchase the fittings for our artists' jewelry  from a local, family owned supplier. Each fitting is made in the USA. IdealThread makes the interior of our therapeutic, meditation pillows.  We use 100% USA cotton bought locally and bulk golden flaxseed from a local, employee-owned supplier. Our Packaging

We know that when you give a gift or get a gift for yourself, presentation is important. We also know that excess packaging is a true planet killer. We work very hard to give you the best possible purchasing experience with the least possible impact. We make our packaging from made-in-the-USA recyclable or biodegradable materials. We go light on dyes and try to never put a product in plastic. We use our excess 100% cotton to make our dye-free gift bags so that they will biodegrade if they do wind up in a landfill. We do small batch printing of our paper products from biodegradable, made-in-the-USA cardstock. We choose embossing over ink on our boxes to reduce our footprint and we custom designed our folding cartons to assemble without glue.

Shipping

Our Artist partners are located in Mexico and Guatemala. We have to get their art work from there to here. We also have to get it from us to you. Where possible, our Artists buy their supplies locally and so do we. When shipping is required, we build in the time to let things come to us via the most environmentally efficient manner, looking for ways to cut down our carbon footprint at every stage. 

End of Life

The life-cycle of each one of our products is different. Our promise to you: if our product has reached the end of its useful life, return it to us and we will keep it out of the landfill.
