The Soto family has spent over two decades perfecting the craft of leather working . Mr. Herbert Soto, who learned the art of creating leather goods from his brothers, worked as a pizza delivery driver  in Guatemala City as he saved for the necessary tools, building his home workshop piece by piece. Over time, his son, Daniel, joined him in the business.

In 2020, when the global pandemic shook economies, Arecely Soto, found herself unemployed and uncertain about the future. In response, she decided to join her father and brother in the leather business, adding a fresh perspective and bringing her keen eye for color and design. Arecely's addition of traditional Guatemalan fabric swatches to the leather pieces seamlessly blended the sleek modern lines of the family’s creations with the rich beauty of world-renowned Guatemalan textiles

It was Arecely's daughter, Shirley, who suggested the family rebrand their business with a new name: La Artesana.

To expand their reach, Arecely turned to Facebook. It was Shirley, with her modern vision, who took charge of managing the page. Thanks to her talent for capturing high-quality photos and creating engaging content, the La Artesana Facebook page gained traction. The business also began participating in local municipal markets, where the quality and design of their products impressed many. Recognizing the potential of La Artesana, the municipality offered Shirley a scholarship to attend a business management course for entrepreneurs. From there, La Artesana grew into a significant presence in the Guatemalan handicrafts market.

Today, La Artesana stands as a testament to success, perseverance, and the Soto family's dedication. The workshop continues to be a place where creativity, passion, and craftsmanship come together to produce unique, high-quality products.
